How do I prevent Pages from converting my jpgs to pngs when exporting as an epub file?

How do I prevent Pages from converting my jpgs to pngs when exporting as an epub file? The file size bloats as my small jpgs get converted into very large pngs.

I don't want or need that, but see nowhere in the settings to turn this feature off. Is it possible?

Because I looked at the image files inside the epub file (essentially a zip file)

I unzipped the file then looked in the OPS/images directory where they had all been converted to much larger png files and renamed image-1, image-2 etc.
